Four-time world kickboxing champion Andrew Tate has been removed from the Big Brother house.

Producers of the Channel 5 show say he "was not removed because of his actions inside the House".

Following his departure, the 29-year-old claimed on Twitter that a national newspaper in the UK was about to publish a video of him "hitting a woman with a belt".

He denied the claims, saying the video had been edited.

He said: "They are pretending I beat her up when we were joking and the belt made noise but didn't hurt! They cut all laughing.", external

He said the girl in the video is his mate., external

The statement from Channel 5 said: "Andrew was removed because of information which came to light today."

In other tweets Andrew Tate says he is still "great friends" with the woman involved in the video. , external

He added: "I have never hurt a girl in my life and this is a total lie trying to make me look bad.", external

The kickboxing star had been in the current series of Big Brother since it started last Tuesday.

He was one of several contestants known as "The Others" who'd been part of a secret second house.

Big Brother producers also insisted that other tweets posted by the contestant before his appearance in the show weren't related to their decision.

They also denied claims he made in a Facebook video, which has now been deleted.
