UKIP's only MP Douglas Carswell is paid in gold nuggets, according to one report.
He apparently gets the precious metal instead of cash through adverts hosted on his blog website.
The revelation was buried like a piece of treasure in an article about political advertising for Campaign magazine, external.
"Every month instead of sending him a wire transfer, we are sending him a gold nugget," writes Jag Singh.
Jag, the founder of political advertising agency MessageSpace, says: "The quirk about Douglas is that because he is such a fiscally responsible person, he wants payment in gold."
The PR firm provides advertising to most major political blogs, including those of individual politicians such as Douglas Carswell.
Gold is seen as a potential haven during times of economic uncertainty and as a safe bet against big moves in the value of currency.
Every twitch in the economic world - whether political crisis, inflation or recessions - leads to large swings in gold prices.
The value of gold soared more than 20% in the hours that followed the referendum vote to leave the EU as investors scrambled for somewhere stable to put money.
