Katy Perry has shared her sympathies for Spencer Morrill - a man who was tricked into thinking he was dating the singer for six years.
Morrill revealed his strange story on a recent episode of US TV show, Catfish.
He had been exchanging messages online with a woman called Harriet from Gloucester, who pretended to be pop superstar Katy.
Now, the actual Katy has said the story made her sad (even if she didn't read all the details).
"You know, like, my heart goes out to [Morrill] actually because anybody that's been fooled like that," she tells US radio station Sirius FM.
"People have dreams and people live in different parts of world where not everything is always so accessible... I felt bad for him, and so I didn't really like to indulge in that.
"Someone sent me a link [to the story] and I didn't actually read through it because I just think it's really unfortunate and very sad."
'Genuinely sorry'
The episode featuring Morrill aired last week, with Harriet offering an apology to the man she had deceived online.
"I just got to a point where I couldn't imagine like not talking to you," says Harriet in the episode.
"I've been through some tough times throughout the time we've been talking the past six years.
"I'm like genuinely sorry. I can't change what I did, but I understand that it was really wrong."
Catfish is a US TV show which outs people who start relationships online while pretending to be someone else.
It is based on the 2010 documentary of the same name.
