Live Lounge month: Five questions for Bastille

Bastille have revealed that on Friday afternoon they will be in a hotel room huddled around a radio.

That's when the UK Official Album Charts will be updated and the band are on course to be number one.

"I guess we'll just see what happens. It'd be incredible but who knows?" guitarist Will Farquarson tells Newsbeat.

"I guess we'd be very happy. We will be in Singapore when the news comes out, so fingers crossed but who knows."

Bastille were in the Radio 1 Live Lounge earlier (14 September) and performed new single, Send Them Off!

The band also did a cover version of MO's, Final Song.

After their set Newsbeat caught up with the band to ask five essential questions.

Which song by another artist do you wish you'd written?

Kyle said: "Vulfpeck, Back Pocket, external. It gets in your head forever and it's such a tune.

"It's really happy, funky and it's sexy as well. Three of the most important adjectives."

"Plus it has a clarinet solo in it as well. What more could you ask for, "says Dan.

Where was your first gig and how many people were there?

"Our first gig as Bastille was in Dartford. And as we were parking outside the venue some dude pulled up and just swore at Dan, for no reason," Woody says.

"So that was nice. We played in the corner of a pub and didn't get pelted with stuff so that was good."

Dan adds: "I mean early gigs are always fun especially for a band like us because we started very much from the ground up. I remember one very early one in Wrexham.

"We drove for hours to get there... it took forever. And when we got there, there were like three people including the bar staff.

"We still gave it our all, consummate professionals."

What's been the most surreal fan moment?

"I used to live on an estate in Hackney and there was this guy that was the caretaker there," explains Will.

"One day he came up to me and said he knew who I was and wondered why I still lived there and hadn't bought a massive house somewhere.

"That was nice because usually I don't get recognised that much."

When was your last day off and what did you do with it?

"I can't remember," says Will.

"But I probably slept or went and saw my girlfriend, because that's what you're supposed to do, right?

"Before this band I used to sit for hours on end in this park enjoying the sun."

"You've just made unemployment sound so idyllic," jokes Kyle.

Will: "No, no, no! I take that back. Everyone should have a job if you can have one. That's my advice to kids. Get a job."

What is something - apart from your phone or wallet - that has to be in your vicinity at all times?

"Headphone, always headphones. Listening to music is nice," says Kyle.

"I listen responsibly never too loud, though, because good hearing is important to my job.

"Actually when people listen too loudly I'm more annoyed that they're damaging their hearing over that i can hear the music."
