'History', a 'mad ting', 'our time!': How grime reacted to Skepta's Mercury Prize win
- Published
Skepta has won the Mercury Prize, the most respected award in British music, and everyone in grime is talking about it.
The breakthrough is being compared to Dizzee Rascal's victory for Boy In Da Corner in 2003.
Skepta's brother, grime MC JME, posted that it was a "mad ting" - which is something the pair's mum must be thinking this morning too.
Her response to the £25,000 prize announcement has been made into a gif.
Lethal Bizzle says "revenge is in process" and that music execs are "gonna act like they supported us from the start".
Wiley, who's often referred to as the godfather of grime, is part of the Boy Better Know collective along with Skepta.

AJ Tracey, who's been described as one of the best new grime artists in the UK, also posted how much of a big deal this is for the genre.
Tinchy Stryder posted that he believes it's "history".
And the praise didn't just come from other grime acts.
Fellow Mercury Prize nominee Matty Healy from The 1975 called him "an inspiration".
And Adele posted on Instagram: "Wow."
