Social media users make profiles black in protest at Donald Trump becoming US president

Some people in America are turning their social media profiles black in a protest against Donald Trump becoming US president.

Hillary Clinton supporter Katy Perry has changed hers and is using the hashtag #TwitterBlackout.

Meanwhile, thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets of US cities to take part in protest marches.

In New York, people angry at Donald Trump's views on immigration and gay rights marched to Trump Tower.

That's the skyscraper where the new president lives with his family and where he has his campaign offices.

Lady Gaga was one of the first outside the building on Fifth Avenue.

Protests have also been taking place in Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Portland, Seattle, Boston, Eugene, Phoenix and Berkeley.

Demonstrators in Oakland, California, threw objects at police in riot gear, burned rubbish in the middle of a main road, set off fireworks and smashed shop windows.

American flags have even been set on fire.

Newsbeat was at one march in Dallas, where people were protesting against Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton - some people at the rally thought Bernie Sanders would have been a better choice for the Democrats.

In Austin, the Texas state capital, about 400 people marched through the streets.

Other anti-Donald Trump hashtags have also been trending including #NotMyPresident - which is being used by protestors as a chant - as well as #ImStillWithHer and #ImWithHer.

Meanwhile, in London anti-racist protesters gathered outside the US Embassy and there were reports of confrontations with members of a right-wing group, although Scotland Yard said no arrests were made.
