H&M has made a short Wes Anderson film for its Christmas ad

Directed by Wes Anderson and starring Adrien Brody, the H&M Christmas advert seems more like a movie than something you'd see during The X Factor break.

Described by the fashion brand as a "short film", the campaign sees an eclectic group of train travellers getting way-laid by the winter weather.

It's trending on social media and has been viewed thousands of times already.

As Christmas advertising campaigns become ever more elaborate each year, H&M seem to have raised the stakes.

It's not clear how much the clothing retailer spent on the campaign, but the last film Wes Anderson and Adrien Brody worked on, The Grand Budapest Hotel, took $175m (£140m) at the box office.

Like John Lewis, Sainsburys and Marks and Spencer, H&M has made sure the plot has a feel-good aspect to it.

"This story may resonate more than ever at a time in the world where we could all do with giving a stranger a hug," said Adrien Brody in the press release, external.

The advert had quite a few fans.

Christian Dobbins tweeted: "So I've never seen a Wes Anderson film but I just watched his H&M commercial and I wanna watch all his films now. I love the cinematography.", external

Josh Dorian tweeted: "That Wes Anderson H&M Christmas short is the best Christmas thing I've seen in years.", external

But not everyone agreed, with one person writing on H&M Facebook's page: "Feeling disappointed. I'm not really feeling this Christmas 2016 ad. It's too boring."
