Radio 1 Teen Hero Rosie Abbott dies aged 15

Rosie Abbott, a winner of a Radio 1 Teen Hero award, external who raised more than £20,000 for charity, has died aged 15.

She had been diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was 10 years old.

"Rosie's light in our lives is out, Rosie's voice from our ears is stilled, Rosie's beautiful smile is gone, a void which never can be filled," an announcement on her Facebook page, external said.

When she won her Teen Award, Radio 1 DJ Gemma Cairney described Rosie as "extraordinary" and "inspirational".

Radio 1 posted a message on social media, external saying: "Rosie was inspirational - sending our love and thoughts to her family."

Rosie, who was from Coventry, raised money for numerous charities, including the Teenage Cancer Trust, Make a Wish and the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to children who lose their hair due to illness.

She drew donations through events such as a charity football match, which alone raised £7,500 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

She also completed a Race for Life - where her mum said she had to be carried part of the way because she was so poorly.

Her family described Rosie as "beautiful, inspirational and courageous" in their online tributes.

Michelle Aucott from the Teenage Cancer Trust says: "Rosie was an amazingly inspirational young person.

"Despite dealing with years of gruelling treatments, she showed real positivity and kept fundraising for others like her.

"It is thanks to Rosie that we can reach even more young people across the UK to make sure they don't face cancer alone."
