New series of Game of Thrones may not air until July

Game of Thrones won't be aired until July, disappointing fans who hoped they only had a couple of months to wait.

Ser Davos, or more specifically the actor who plays him, revealed the news - when maybe he shouldn't have.

"I've been disappointing various people around the world because it was meant to come out in April. It's July now, I think," Liam Cunningham told The Independent.

He also hinted "something special" would happen for the series premiere.

Fans already knew an April transmission wasn't happening, as filming schedules had changed.

Cunningham has since tweeted to correct his quotation, claiming he doesn't know what date it's due out, suggesting he was perhaps supposed to keep that news quiet.

He said "Davos don't know date".

Game of Thrones first hit our screens in April 2011, with new seasons following every April since then, apart from series three which started on 31 March 2013.

It's already known that this penultimate season is going to have three fewer episodes than all the others.

And we were told in July to expect a delay in transmission as the arrival of summer had caused filming to be pushed back.

Benioff, who co-created the show, told UFC Unfiltered podcast: "We pushed everything down the line to get some grim, grey weather, even in the sunnier places that we shoot."
