Beyonce's dad appears to have confirmed the singer has given birth to twins, posting a message of congratulations on social media.

Mathew Knowles tweeted a message saying "they're here" and wishing them a happy birthday from grandad.

US media had reported that Beyonce and Jay Z had welcomed two new babies but the pair have yet to announce the news or make a comment.

They already have a five-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy.

The singer confirmed her pregnancy earlier this year, sharing a photo of her baby bump on Instagram.

She captioned it: "We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. - The Carters", external

Speculation about the twins' birth had grown in recent days after a woman was photographed entering a Los Angeles hospital on Friday holding a card that read "B + J".

Although the gender of the babies has not yet been revealed, pink and blue balloons have been pictured in the media, suggesting Blue Ivy now has a brother and a sister.

Last month Beyonce shared a photo from the "Carter Push Party"

The African-themed event was an alternative to a baby shower and celebrated the upcoming arrival of the twins.
