'Leave Britney Alone' guy on what he's learnt 10 years after the viral video

Chris Crocker, the internet celebrity who went viral 10 years ago with his videos demanding the media "leave Britney alone", has followed up with a video explaining what he's learnt in the decade since.

Chris Crocker's original video, external criticised the media for invading Britney Spears' privacy.

Her struggles were well publicised at the time, including when she shaved her hair off in February 2007.

She also lost custody of her children.

Chris Crocker had four pieces of advice, external for his 750,000 Instagram followers.

"The number one thing would be to not let the things people say about you online get to you," he says in his video.

"I didn't know how to deal with it."

He explains that his mum had come back from serving in the war in Iraq, became homeless and was addicted to drugs that year.

"I knew if I tried to explain that, no-one would listen to me.

"So instead, what I decided to do was, 'Oh, if they think I'm a joke, then I'm going to act like a joke.'"

After Chris Crocker's video got two million views in its first 24 hours, he became famous and appeared on a number of American TV shows.

"Number two is, 'Don't let the words other people say about you define you,'" he says.

His flamboyant personality and gender identity became big talking points in the media.

Chris has appeared to move away from wearing make-up and having long hair in the years since the height of his fame.

"Number three: I think that we forget sometimes that the things that we post online can last for a long time.

"Here we are 10 years later still talking about this - so definitely be cautious when you post things."

There's been an intense media spotlight on Britney Spears in the years since she released her first single in 1998.

In early 2007, aged 25, she was going through a divorce and had stayed in a drug rehab facility.

Her aunt, who she was very close to, also died that year - all factors which seemed to contribute to her shaving her hair off, external in an LA salon.

She lost custody of her two children, external later that year.

But she has since made a comeback, and is now mostly admired for the way she bounced back.
