Netflix has revealed its first comic book release will be called The Magic Order.

It will be written by former Marvel mogul Mark Miller, who is behind the franchises Kick-Ass and Kingsman.

The comic book will be also be illustrated by Olivier Coipel, who is famous for his work on Thor, The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man.

Netflix's announcement comes three months after it bought the Scottish comic book firm Millarworld.

The Magic Order will be six issues long and released in spring next year.

The comic book will feature five families of magicians sworn to protect the world who must battle against an enemy who is picking them off one-by-one.

The families blend in as normal citizens by day, but by night are the powers that fight evil.

"We wanted to make a splash with our first book for Netflix and this is it," said Mark, president and chief creative officer of Millarworld.

"I love dark fantasy and there's an enormous gap in the market for something like this."

He said Netflix hiring Olivier had also made him "the happiest guy alive", adding: "I've been after him for almost ten years so to finally have our names in the same book is an absolute honour."
