Gigi Hadid has dropped out of modelling in this year's Victoria's Secret fashion show.

She told her Twitter followers that she was "bummed" she wouldn't make it to the event, which is taking place in Shanghai, China, on Monday.

"Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit," she wrote.

Her decision comes a few months after she was accused of being "racist" after appearing to mock Asian features in a Snapchat video.

In August, Gigi told fans she couldn't wait to appear in the 2017 Victoria's Secret fashion show.

Gigi posted on Instagram that it was an unforgettable opportunity., external

But on Thursday she announced she would no longer be taking part.

Instead, the model said she couldn't "wait to tune in with everyone to see the beautiful show"., external

It's been speculated that her no-show is down to a video posted on Snapchat in February.

Her sister posted footage of the model holding up a Buddha-shaped cookie, squinting her eyes and smiling.

A fan reacted to the video on Twitter. , external

It was reported Gigi apologised on Chinese social media site Weibo and her boyfriend Zayn Malik defended her.

She has faced a backlash on social media for the video with users calling her "racist" and sending her snake emojis.

Rachel wrote on Instagram: "I have a dream... for people like u to stop being racist and ignorant."

Laura added: "Don't come to China. You racist."
