The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been named ultimate game of the year at the Golden Joystick Awards.

It also picked up three other prizes - best audio, Nintendo game of the year and the critics' choice award.

The game follows Link, who wakes up after a 100-year sleep and tries to defeat the boss Calamity Ganon and the kingdom of Hyrule.

Held in London, they're a big deal in the industry because the winners are voted for by gamers themselves.

The awards have been going for 35 years now.

It's not just the big-budget games that are recognised, smaller indie titles also get rewarded.

As well as being named ultimate game of the year, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild picked up four other awards at this years event.

Horizon: Zero Dawn picked up the award for PlayStation game of the year

Newsbeat spoke to Bastian Seelbach, who is from Gorilla games and created the game Horizon: Zero Dawn.

He says used to play the Lemmings when he was younger, "seriously, that was bad, it was days on end, never stopping".

He says it inspired him to create better games in the future.

Brendon Green is creative director on PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

He says he was inspired by survivor games from the past.

"I wanted to create a game that tested a player in a unique setting every time.

"That's why I created Battle Royal and now I am here getting the award for best multi-player game, which is surreal."
