Radio 1: Jamie Laing to replace Jordan North on drivetime show

Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing will replace Jordan North on Radio 1's drivetime show, the station says.

Jordan has worked at Radio 1 for 10 years and is a much-loved presenter.

Jamie will host the Going Home show between 15:30-18:00 Monday to Thursdays alongside Vick Hope.

He will take over from 4 March, having previously presented on the station during Mollie King's maternity leave, describing it as "an absolute dream".

"I've loved every minute that I've been on air with Radio 1 in recent years, so to be joining Vick on Drivetime is just incredible," he says.

"I'm beyond excited to get started and keep listeners company on their journeys home."

Jamie's previously co-hosted the Radio 1 podcast 6 Degrees from Jamie and Spencer and also presents the NewlyWeds podcast alongside his wife Sophie Habboo.

The head of the station, Aled Haydn Jones, says "our young audiences have loved" Jamie.

He added that Jordan has been "an amazing presenter and a valued colleague... and I'm so proud of his journey with us".

"He has always connected with the Radio 1 audience through his shows and projects, as witnessed by the huge amount of money raised for Comic Relief during his rowing trip from London to Burnley."

During the 2022 challenge, Jordan raised more than £700,000 for the charity by rowing 100 miles along canals to get from the capital to his hometown.

Jordan's been presenting the drivetime show with Vick since 2021, having previously presented weekend shows like Greatest Hits on Sundays.

Over the years he's also developed a reputation as Radio 1's "supply teacher", after sitting in for Greg James, Matt Edmondson, Scott Mills and Nick Grimshaw.

Segments like Judge Jordan, Something Songs and Complete the Year - dubbed radio's hardest quiz - have been a hit with listeners.

Jordan has not yet commented publicly on the announcement however other DJs at the station have paid tribute.

Charlie Hedges posted Jordan "is such a beautiful human and amazing broadcaster" while Jack Saunders said the news was "not how I wanted to end my week".

"Not just a great presenter but a really good guy too," wrote Melvin Odoom and Sam McGregor said he would be "missed a truck load".

Jordan also co-hosts the popular Help I Sexted My Boss podcast with William Hanson.

In 2020, he took part in I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and finished second.
