Region Profile
The Highlands and Islands is the largest of the electoral regions in terms of area, but has the smallest population and electorate.
The Cairngorms National Park, which sits within this region, is one of only two national parks in Scotland. Renewable energy and water are important industries in this part of Scotland and geographically, Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch is one of the biggest Scottish seats.
There are eight constituencies in Highlands and Islands - Argyll and Bute; Caithness, Sutherland and Ross; Inverness and Nairn; Moray; Na-h-Eileanan and Iar; Orkney Islands; Shetland Islands, and Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch. At the Holyrood election of 2011 the SNP secured three seats; Labour won two and the Conservatives also secured two.
