How to help common toads and other threatened species

The first nationwide survey of UK amphibian and reptiles has found that several of Britain's most widespread species are in decline.

The warning comes from the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, which has been collecting data on 12 species since 2007.

One of those at risk is the common toad, which is only half as widespread as the common frog in southern England.

Dr John Wilkinson, the Trust's research and monitoring officer, explains how to tell a toad from a frog and what can be done to protect and encourage amphibians and reptiles of all kinds.
