Audio slideshow: Fruit flies - up close

There are more similarities between humans and fruit flies than you might first think. We share about 60 per cent of our genes with them - and scientists at Cambridge University are taking a close look at the insects to see if new things can be learned about our own bodies.

This year's Cambridge Science Festival is opening up the work of the university's fly laboratories. Take a tour with Dr Irene Miguel-Aliaga from the Department of Zoology.

The University of Cambridge Science Festival is on between 14-27 March 2011. Visitors can see fruit flies close up on Saturday 19 March.
