Your 'Blood Moon' lunar eclipse pictures

A total lunar eclipse has been visible across much of the Americas and Asia, resulting in a dramatic "Blood Moon".

The eclipse began at 08:00 GMT on the east US coast and was visible in Asia at about 10:00 GMT.

BBC News website readers have been sending in their photos of the Moon.

During the eclipse the Moon appears orange or red, the result of sunlight scattering off the Earth's atmosphere. Andy Barker took this photo of the eclipse from Hobart, Tasmania.

This is the second eclipse to occur this year, the last being on 15 April. In Philadelphia, US, Mark Fernandes took this photo of the eclipse at 05:40am.

Skywatchers in North America, Australia, western South America and parts of East Asia were able to see the eclipse. Toshi Nema: "I took this from the ground floor of Grand Hyatt, Tokyo. I tried to take it from the top of the hotel but it was packed with hundreds of people."

Europe, Africa and the eastern part of Brazil were not able to witness the event. Sethu R Rathinam took this picture from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, US at 5:50am.

Around the world, areas were set up to watch the event. Darin Kramer was prompted to get up early in the morning to take some pictures of it, like this one taken in Toronto, Canada.

Tony Lazar: "We were fortunate to have clear skies and a great view of the entire eclipse here in northern California. This picture was taken from just south of San Francisco, as totality was ending. It is actually six 5-second frames stacked together to increase resolution, taken through a Celestron 11 and a SBIG ST-2000XM camera."

The last phase of the eclipse ended at 13:33 GMT. Jonathan White took this whilst on holiday in Barbados as a partial eclipse of the moon set over the Caribbean Sea.

The next Blood Moon is expected in April 2015. Ritaban Dutta sent in these photos of the Moon during different stages of the lunar eclipse (including the red moon at total eclipse) taken at Hobart, Australia.
