Scientists support Attenborough ship ice trials

The UK's new £200m polar research vessel, the Sir David Attenborough, has demonstrated its capabilities by crashing through Antarctic sea-ice in a set of trials. Scientists first had to find the "right ice" in which to test the ship. Satellite data was used for this search, but ultimately it involved the scientists climbing down on to the ice to drill through it to check its suitability.
