The regulator set up to break the link between crime and the private security industry could be abolished, the BBC has learned.

Home Secretary Theresa May is thought to be considering scrapping the Security Industry Authority which licences bouncers and bodyguards.

Regulation was established seven years ago to reduce criminality inside the industry.

Almost 35,000 security workers are currently licenced in the UK.
