Lawrence case: 'Significant of its generation'

Two men have been convicted of the racist murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence, 18 years after he was stabbed to death near a south London bus stop.

Gary Dobson and David Norris were found guilty by an Old Bailey jury after a trial based on forensic evidence.

Speaking following the verdict, Alison Saunders, chief Crown prosecutor for London, said it was one of the most significant cases of its generation.

She said: "It should be remembered that 18 years ago, a young man lost his life."

She added that she hopes that these convictions offer justice to Stephen Lawrence's family and friends.
