Golden touch on the Tube

Up in the air one minute, down to earth the next - and then under it.

Even gold medallists travel by tube and here's the proof.

Ruben Limardo Gascon was happy to pose for pictures on the Jubilee Line after winning gold in fencing's individual epee event.

Mexicambridge wave

Ay caramba! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are turning spectating into an Olympic sport itself, popping up to support event after event.

Today it was Wimbledon's turn to host royalty when GB's Andy Murray comfortably beat Nicolas Almagro of Spain.

A sedate wave from the VIP crowd here - more of a Mexican ripple.

Wiggone

"Well what a day, blind drunk at the minute and overwhelmed with all the messages, Thank You everyone it's been emotional X".

A very merry Bradley Wiggins posts at 2am on his Twitter account after his gold medal win.

And why not?

Meanwhile, Wiggo's hairdresser Tina Williams is keen to set about his famous sideburns. "I wish I could have got my hands on them and give them a good tidy up... he's let them go a bit wild" she told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Golden hour

More sleep-deprived gold medallists on Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 show this morning: Rowers Heather Stanning and Helen Glover.

"We've had an hour's sleep," revealed Glover. "We went to bed quite late and were buzzing from the day and woke up to our Olympic medals."

Meanwhile Stanning added she was predicted in her school yearbook at age 18 as being "Most likely to win an Olympic medal".

And which school was it? Gordonstoun, school of Prince Charles and latterly Zara Phillips, so sights are probably set pretty high.

Golden delivery for medal winners

We asked you to tweet us pictures of the golden postboxes that are appearing in the hometowns of our gold medal winning athletes.

John Kelly from Catterall, Preston, posted this picture with the text: "Yes it looks great & is still wet! As my two year old found out!!"

Romney horsing around

The Romneys are back on the Olympics scene - but this time in search of a medal.

Rafalca, a 15-year-old, German-bred mare on the US dressage team, is part-owned by Mitt Romney's wife, Ann.

Mrs Romney watched her steed's Olympic debut at Greenwich Park on Thursday and later declared herself to be "thrilled to death" with its performance.

Her husband, the Republican US Presidential candidate, who was upbraided by British politicians for questioning London's readiness on the eve of the Games, was not in attendance.

Democratic adverts have questioned how Mr Romney can presume to know the problems of ordinary Americans when he inhabits the rarefied world of dressage.

It's a tough job...

Australian actor and musicals star, Adam Garcia danced along to a swimming pool in Aldershot, Hampshire, to cast an appraising eye over the Team GB synchronised swimming squad's routine.

The team are practising their Peter Pan-themed freestyle routine which is set to music from Steven Spielberg's film Hook.

Here's hoping the crocodile is not in evidence.
