The Duchess of Cambridge has named a 3,600 passenger cruise liner on her last solo public appearance before her baby is due in July.

Catherine arrived at Ocean Terminal in Southampton in her chauffeur-driven car.

The Royal Princess cruise liners have traditionally been named by Royal Family members - with the Duchess of Cambridge now having the symbolic position as the liner's godmother.

Before the traditional smashing of a champagne bottle against the Royal Princess's hull, the duchess was introduced by Tony Draper - the ship's captain.

She took a brief tour of the Royal Princess. The Italian-built 1000ft ship's atrium houses a pizzeria, ice-cream parlour, restaurants and wine bars. The cruise liner cost an estimated £500m to build.

Singer Natasha Bedingfield performed before the duchess blessed the ship. The Royal Marines band and the Irish Guards also provided music.

"May God bless her and all who sail in her," the duchess told crowds before letting the champagne bottle smash against the Royal Princess.

The 15-litre bottle of Moet & Chandon, known as a Nebuchadnezzar, normally sells for £1,250.

Her last official engagement before the arrival of the royal baby will be on Saturday when she is expected to attend the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
