Thousands of people greeted the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they arrived in Brisbane to continue their 10-day tour of Australia.

The duchess met members of the crowd wearing a blue poppy-print dress by British designer LK Bennett.

The couple are on a 19-day trip taking in both Australia and New Zealand. Prince George, who is also on the tour, did not join his parents in Brisbane - remaining in Sydney with the royal nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo.

Ten-month-old Grace Farrelly was among those who turned up to welcome the royal couple, with a special message for Prince George.

During the day, the duke and duchess visited a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base in Amberley, near Brisbane, where Catherine took to the driver's seat of an F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet.

Prince William, a pilot himself who has served in the UK Army and Royal Air Force, was also shown around the cockpit by Chief of Air Force Air Marshal Geoff Brown.

The duke and duchess listened to music played by an RAAF band, who performed verses of God Save the Queen. Air Marshall Geoff Brown (right) and Commanding Officer of Number 1 Squadron, Wing Commander Stephen Chappell (left) accompanied the royal couple.

The duke and duchess also planted a eucalyptus tree in remembrance of RAAF personnel who have died in service.
