The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in the United States as part of a three-day tour - the duke visited the White House while the duchess travelled to see a children's centre in New York.

On Monday, Prince William visited the White House for a 20 minute meeting with President Barack Obama, who said the prince's work to protect endangered wildlife was "very important".

Prince William delivered a speech to the World Bank in Washington on wildlife crime, describing the illegal wildlife trade as "one of the most insidious forms of corruption and criminality in the world today".

In his speech at the World Bank, the prince also attacked those who "loot our planet to feed mankind's ignorant craving for exotic pets, trinkets, cures and ornaments derived from the world's vanishing and irreplaceable species".

The Duchess of Cambridge is seen here wrapping presents for children with Chirlane McCray, the first lady of New York City, at the Northside Center for Childhood Development. She stayed in New York while her husband visited Washington.

The Duchess was greeted with cheers from well-wishers when she arrived at the centre in Harlem, which provides educational and mental health services to children and families.

The duchess, who is expecting her second child, mixed with the children who attend the centre.

The royal couple have had a warm welcome in the United States. These young women were keen to wave at Prince William as he left the World Bank headquarters in Washington DC.

The royal couple greeted former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea at a reception held at the British consul general's residence.

The final event of the day saw the royals travel to Brooklyn to see a basketball game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Here they pose with NBA commissioner Adam Silverwhile.

The couple had front-row seats to take in the action at the Barclays Center.

They were in good spirits, with the prince sharing a joke with NBA global ambassador Dikembe Mutombo (second left).

The couple rubbed shoulders with musical royalty - singer Beyonce and rapper Jay-Z.

They were presented with special strips, including one for Prince George, by NBA star LeBron James.

The royal couple also visited the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York. The duchess is seen here laying flowers at the edge of the memorial's reflecting pools.

The duke and duchess also saw theatrical performances during a visit to the Door and the City Kids Foundation in New York.
