Striking images from around the UK after high winds brought another day of disruption to many areas.

Gales hit many parts of the UK, including Scotland, where strong winds felled a lorry on the Clackmannanshire Bridge over the Firth of Forth.

A Met Office "be aware" warning for wind, external remains in force for the Highlands and Northern and Western Isles until 18:00 on Saturday.

More than 30,000 homes were left without electricity after winds reached up to 113mph in parts of Scotland overnight. Engineers worked through the night, including in Balmaha near Loch Lomond, to try to restore power.

In England, two men are feared to have drowned in stormy seas off the Brighton coast in the early hours of Saturday. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the search had turned into a recovery mission as there was "no chance of finding them alive".

Weather conditions at Goodison Park in Liverpool were no different to the rest of the country - the gates for Everton's match against Manchester City opened 15 minutes late after repairs were carried out to damage caused by the high winds. The match kicked off at 15:00 GMT, as scheduled.

In Wales, high winds cut power supplies and caused disruption to travel. Motorists are being warned to take care after debris was left strewn across many roads, and trees came down in many areas, including on the Taff Trail in Cardiff.

Strong winds are expected to continue to affect exposed areas across the country, including in the seaside town of Porthcawl.
