Gary Glitter did terrible things, Vietnamese victim says

Gary Glitter - real name Paul Gadd - has been found guilty of the abuse of three young girls, including an attempted rape, between 1975 and 1980.

In 2005, when he lived in Vietnam, the former rock singer had been convicted of molesting two other girls, 11 and 12.

One of those girls has now spoken to the BBC's Nga Pham about the abuse to which Gadd had subjected her.

Be Ut - not her real name - agreed to speak to the BBC on condition of anonymity.

She still lives in the seaside town of Vung Tau, 100km (62 miles) from Ho Chi Minh City, where she met Gadd as a child.

The former rock star lived there for 11 months before he was sentenced and sent to prison by a local court in 2006.

"I met him when a friend took me round his house," Be Ut says.

"She took me there and said, 'Let's go inside.'

"He showed me photos and a pornographic video.

My friend said, 'Let's just stay here for a bit, and then we'll go home.'

'So scared'

"He then grabbed me and dragged me into the bedroom, and that's when he did it to me.

"I was scared - really scared, so scared.

"It was bad that he did this to me.

"He looked like a father figure, but - he did it."

Deported

The charge of child rape was dropped because of a lack of evidence, but Gadd was tried for the lesser crime of obscene acts, for which he was sentenced to three years in prison.

He was released and deported two years later.

"My life is so unsettled, it isn't stable," Be Ut says.

"People still talk all the time.

Gossip

"I feel unsettled and sad.

"They gossip so much - I feel really low."

Asked what message she wants people to take from her story, she says: "I didn't know anything at the time.

"He looked like a father figure - I didn't expect that he would do these things, these terrible things.

"Please do something so he doesn't commit these crimes again."
