The 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, widely seen as the document that heralded modern democracy, has been commemorated.

The Duke of Cambridge was the first royal to arrive at a celebration event in Runnymede, Surrey

The site is where King John of England sealed the original document in 1215

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Prime Minister David Cameron, the Queen and other senior royals all attended

Mr Cameron said the document had influenced generations across the world

Prince William visited an art installation - The Jurors - commissioned for the anniversary

Princess Anne re-dedicated the American Bar Association memorial, which was erected at the site in 1957

The RAF Red Arrows marked the event with a fly-past

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch was among those attending. Magna Carta is thought to have inspired the US Constitution

The anniversary was also marked in Australia, where Prime Minister Tony Abbott spoke
