Hail and lightning in the UK

Intense thunderstorms swept across the UK on Friday, bringing lightning, hail, heavy rain and strong winds.

The storms meant temperatures largely cooled off compared with recent days, but they also brought travel disruption.

There were cancellations and delays at airports including Edinburgh, London Gatwick and Birmingham, as well as on some train routes.
