Sussex appeal launched for new teenage cancer unit

A special committee has been set up in Sussex to support the appeal for a teenage cancer unit in the South East.
It follows high-profile campaigns about the work of the Teenage Cancer Trust, which featured a 16-year-old girl from Kent in a promotional video.
The new facility will be at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Sutton, south London.
An event to launch the fundraising appeal is being held on Brighton Pier, with young cancer patients explaining what a new unit would mean to them.
The 13-bed unit, which is due to open next June, will cost the Teenage Cancer Trust more than £3m to build.
It will mean that for the first time young cancer patients from across Kent, Sussex and Surrey will be treated with others their own age, in an environment suited to their needs.
The unit will also complement the existing 17 which the charity has already built in NHS hospitals across the UK.
