Great Western Ambulance staff call off work-to-rule

Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) staff have called off planned industrial action.

Unison members in Bristol, Wiltshire, parts of Somerset and Gloucestershire were due to work-to-rule on Wednesday in a dispute over pay and conditions.

A GWAS spokesman said all parties wanted to find an effective solution.

"This offers us all time to reflect and focus on finding a resolution in the best interests of both patients and staff," he said.

"This is good news for our staff and good news for the patients we serve," he added

The two sides resumed talks on Monday at conciliation service Acas.

Unison claimed some workers could face pay cuts, while non-peak cover could be "slimmed down" as part of management plans.

GWAS said the changes were about saving more lives and having staff and vehicles available when they were needed by patients.
