A project to expand a fen on the Norfolk and Suffolk border is going ahead thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £370,000.
The Little Ouse Headwaters Project will use the cash to buy land at Webbs Fen.
Project chair Nigel Clark said its volunteers would have land each side of the river to start building a new fen.
"We have received a lot of money but we needed it to fill in the last piece of the jigsaw - a new fen covering 150 acres [61 hectares]," he said.
"We now have land each side of the river - in Norfolk and Suffolk.
"It is an important wetland area for wildlife, visitors and for replenishing ground waters which are pumped out for drinking water.
"All our sites are open access but we gently lead people away from the more sensitive areas.
"But it is going to be a huge task for the volunteers to prepare the new land, although we use contractors for the big heavy jobs."
