A new online service is to be launched for crime victims in the Avon and Somerset police area.

The force has set up a website called TrackMyCrime, allowing people to follow progress investigating offences they have reported.

Avon and Somerset hope the system will save its officers time, by reducing the need to call the public back about crimes they are investigating.

https://asp.trackmycrime.police.uk went live at 1200 GMT.

Deputy Chief Constable Rob Beckley said: ""We've introduced TrackMyCrime to keep victims informed about the status of their crime in a more streamlined and efficient way.

"It combines policing with modern technology and gives victims more choice about how they want to receive information from us."

The real time system is automatically updated as police enter information on their computers.

999 call handlers will offer the service to victims when they ring.
