Somerset and Dorset phones cut by cable theft

  • Published

Homes in Somerset and Dorset have had their phone lines cut after thieves stole a section of copper cable.

A spokesman from BT said a section between Taunton and Yeovil was damaged when people cut through a fibre cable and a smaller copper cable.

Phone and broadband service has been affected over a wide area in Somerset and Dorset including Lyme Regis, Castle Cary, Winscombe, Taunton and Yeovil.

A team of engineers will take a day or two to repair the cable section.

The company has not confirmed the number of homes affected.
