Fall of Singapore: Veterans remember life as Japanese PoWs

Two war veterans from the East of England have been marking the 70th anniversary of the fall of Singapore.

Thousands of British soldiers became prisoners of war when Singapore fell to the Japanese on 15 February 1942.

John Lowe, 92, from Cambridgeshire, and Bert Major, 91, from Gorleston, said they both remembered their times as PoWs in the Far East.

"One of the lessons we really learned was that comradeship was one of the best blessings we could have and that's what really helped us," said Mr Major.
