Olympic road race in Surrey will be 'one of the greats'

The Olympic road race will take in a circuit around Box Hill

The Olympic road race through Surrey is "going to be one of the 'great' cycling road races" according to London's Mayor, Boris Johnson.

Speaking during a visit to Sutton with Logoc chair Sebastian Coe, he urged residents "to come out and watch".

The race route takes cyclists from The Mall, through west London and then out to Surrey and back.

Mr Johnson said: "I think Surrey is doing a great job of preparing for the Olympics."

The Olympic road cycling race will include a large loop through Surrey taking in Walton on Thames, Weybridge, West Byfleet, West Horsley and Dorking.

The cyclists will ride a 15.5km (9.6 miles) circuit around Box Hill, including the National Trust's Zig Zag Hill.

The world's top riders will compete in the road race on 28 and 29 July.
