New date for work on dualling A11 in Suffolk and Norfolk

Work to dual the last single section of carriageway of the A11 through Norfolk and Suffolk could start in January.

The government plans to transform the nine-mile stretch of the road between Barton Mills and Thetford in a scheme expected to cost £131m.

South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss has received a letter from transport minister Mike Penning, saying work will start between January and March.

Ms Truss said her constituents would welcome the news.

"This is very good news and illustrates the government's commitment to infrastructure projects which promote growth and employment," she said.

"The time frame for the construction has been brought forward and some preparatory work has already commenced around the Elveden Estate.

"I know residents and businesses from across the region will be very pleased by this announcement."

Since May 2010 Ms Truss, supported by West Suffolk MP Matthew Hancock - whose constituency includes Elveden, have been lobbying for the final section of dualling to be completed.
