Breitling Jet Team stranded at Cotswold Airport

An aerobatic jet display team has been delayed en route to the Farnborough Airshow after getting stranded at Cotswold Airport where a plane crashed.

A 47-year-old pilot from Belgium suffered serious burns when the Bronco aircraft he was flying crashed on Tuesday.

The runway has been closed until at least Friday for surface inspections.

Members of the Breitling Jet Team said they were "confident" of arriving in time for the show on Friday.

The team, which is based in Dijon, France, has eight aircraft at the airport in Kemble after taking part in the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford.

Team leader Jacques Bothelin said: "We have jets and the only way to get them to Farnborough is to fly them.

"At the moment we are not in a critical situation. We have to be in Farnborough on Friday and we are confident about the fact that we will be.

"We work for a watch company so we want to be on time and accurate."

The Bronco aircraft which crashed had been part of a static display at the Fairford tattoo at the weekend.

The pilot, who was flying solo, is being treated at Bristol's Frenchay Hospital and was said to be in a stable condition after surgery.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Air Accident Investigation Branch.
