Railway: Electrical upgrade for Chase Line

  • Published

A railway line between Walsall and Staffordshire is to be upgraded.

The electrification of the Chase Line between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley, is estimated to cost around £30m.

It is part of a £9.4bn package of investment in the railways in England and Wales, including £4.2bn of new schemes, unveiled by the government.

Cannock Chase MP Aidan Burley said the news was "a shot in the arm" for the area.

"It ends 50 years of waiting for local residents, who first heard this scheme discussed in the early 1960s," he said.
