Independent Martin Surl has been elected police and crime commissioner for Gloucestershire.

Victoria Atkins, external is a barrister from the Cotswolds and was selected following a postal vote of party members.

She has spent much of her career working as a prosecutor, specialising in cases of serious organised crime.

Her main campaign issue is "obtaining value for Gloucestershire taxpayer's money and representing Gloucestershire people's views on policing issues to the chief constable".

ALISTAIR CAMERON - Liberal Democrat

Alistair Cameron, the Liberal Democrats' candidate, is the party's former leader of Cheltenham Borough Council and has also run as a prospective parliamentary candidate for the Tewkesbury constituency.

He has pledged to tackle areas where crime has risen such as burglary and thefts from motor vehicles and to protect frontline policing.

Mr Cameron has also said he wants to work with other police forces to share best practice in order to reduce running costs and to improve public satisfaction rates particularly among black and ethnic minority communities.

Rupi Dhanda, external is a solicitor based in Gloucester who specialises in family law.

Her main election pledges are to take a stronger stance on restorative justice and to fight against police budget cuts.

She has also pledged to make sure citizens have any concerns they have about crime and safety heard.

MARTIN SURL - Independent

Martin Surl, external is a former superintendent with Gloucestershire Police.

He worked for the police force for more than 30 years as well as the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) in London on counter terrorism.

Mr Surl believes the first priority for the newly-elected PCC is to support the police and to reduce crime and criminality in Gloucestershire.
