M25 closed in Kent after pedestrian dies at crash scene

The M25 clockwise was closed at junction five for Sevenoaks in Kent

A section of the M25 motorway was closed in Kent after a pedestrian was killed at the scene of an earlier crash.

Police said the first crash, involving one vehicle, happened at junction five near South Chevening at 13:40 BST. One person received a minor injury.

At about 14:15 BST, a pedestrian at the scene died after being hit by a car.

No details have been released in relation to the identities of either individual.

Traffic was being diverted via the A21 slip road while accident investigators were at the scene and the road was repaired.

A Kent Police spokesman said the pedestrian was fatally injured while attending the first accident.

Police said both carriageways of the M26 were temporarily closed to allow an air ambulance to attend. They were reopened at 15:50.

The maroon Vauxhall Vectra involved in the second collision was travelling from the Dartford direction towards Surrey.

A rear seat passenger in the car was taken to hospital but is not believed to be seriously injured.

The Highways Agency said initially both carriageways of the M25 were closed, with traffic queues building up to junction six at Godstone in Surrey.
