M25 gantries removed near Sevenoaks pave way for upgrade

Three gantries have been taken down on a section of the M25 as part of work which will include making the hard shoulder an extra lane.
They were removed at junction five, near Sevenoaks, overnight on Saturday, paving the way for a major upgrade of the motorway between Kent and Surrey.
The directional signage on the gantries has been replaced by temporary signage on the side of the carriageway.
They will eventually be replaced by new gantries spanning the whole motorway.
Highways Agency project manager John Payne said: "The removal of these gantries is essential to our work on this major improvement, which will lead to reduced journey times and less congestion, and have long term benefits for the economy."
The improvement scheme will make the hard shoulder permanently available to drivers as an extra lane and give additional capacity to the M25 between junctions five and six/seven.
