A man who died after he got out of a car when it stopped on the M25 on 10 April has been named as Nahinmu Okafor Nicholas.
Mr Nicholas, 53, was a Nigerian national who was living in Dartford.
Surrey Police said it was thought he got out of a Ford Focus after it had stopped in a live lane with its lights off alongside a section of road works.
A lorry then collided with the car and hit Mr Nicholas who was walking on the hard shoulder at about 04:30 BST.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.
The motorway was closed for several hours clockwise between junction six at Godstone and junction seven at Redhill.
Another occupant of the Focus, who was still in the vehicle when the crash happened, was treated for minor injuries.
