English football match-fixing accused in court

Two men have appeared in court charged over alleged match-fixing in English football.
Singapore national Chann Sankaran, 33, and Krishna Sanjey Ganeshan, 43, a UK national from Singapore, are charged with conspiracy to defraud.
The pair appeared before magistrates in Cannock, Staffordshire, accused of being part of an illegal betting syndicate based in Singapore.
They were remanded to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 13 December.
Mr Ganeshan and Mr Sankaran, 33, from Hastings, East Sussex, are accused of conspiring together and with others to "defraud bookmakers by influencing the course of football matches and placing bets thereon" between 1 November and 26 November this year.
The maximum sentence for this offence is 10 years in prison, the National Crime Agency said.
Four other people arrested earlier this week were bailed on Thursday pending further inquiries.
