Hillsborough 96-mile walk of thanks to start

The walk will finish at 14:00 BST on Sunday at Anfield

Hillsborough families and supporters will start a 96-mile (154km) walk from Sheffield to Liverpool later.

About 40 people will start the walk at midnight at Hillsborough, arriving at Anfield at 14:00 BST on Sunday.

The route will take in football grounds at Huddersfield, Oldham, Manchester, Bury, Bolton, and Wigan.

Steve Kelly, who lost his brother Michael at Hillsborough, said the walk was a way to thank the "wider football community" for their support.

"This time it is just as a 'thank you', not as a fundraiser," he said.

"It is the greater football community that's carried us through this - it really has been a pleasure to work with these people."

A memorial service marking the 25th anniversary of the disaster was held on Tuesday to remember the 96 fans who died during the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989.

Fresh inquests into their deaths being held in Warrington have been adjourned until 22 April.

They were ordered after the original accidental death inquest verdicts were quashed in 2012 following an independent report.
