A new feature-length BBC documentary about the life of artist David Hockney is due to get its northern premiere in Bradford later.

Hockney is to be shown at the National Media Museum at 19:30 GMT.

The artist's family, including his brother Paul and sister Margaret, are expected to attend the red carpet event, despite him not attending.

The documentary will be shown in UK cinemas from 25 November before being screened on BBC Two in 2015.

Director Randall Wright won a Royal Television Society (RTS) award for his acclaimed film Lucian Freud: A Painted Life.

He met David Hockney, who lives in Bridlington, while directing the award-winning series Shock of the Old.

The feature-length film is said to include unprecedented access to the artist's own photos and home video and looks at how he made his famous paintings of the East Yorkshire countryside.
