A school in Cheshire has released a Christmas single as part of a wider project to encourage children to "dream big".

Laura Stubbs, the only music teacher at St Thomas More Catholic High School in Crewe, has composed the festive lyrics for the original track, Light Up.

It is believed to be the only school in the country to release a Christmas single in 2023.

The song from the choir is available for download on music platforms.

Miss Stubbs said: "I'll be walking down the corridor and children are singing it, the geography teacher's playing it in his classroom… I don't know any other school that's released a Christmas single, but why not?

"It's not just about music. If they have a dream to go and do a certain career, a certain job, a project, a marathon or anything, I want them to go for it."

One member of the choir, Dani, 15, said: "When I was in Year 7, I was quite anxious. I didn't really speak to anyone.

"Being in the musical last year and the choir this year, it's led me to go on to do things outside of school that I would never have dreamt of."

The choir has performed at Catholic Mass and at a residential home for people with dementia.
