Wycombe Air Park 'should have sports village'

Plans for a sports stadium in Buckinghamshire should include community facilities and a sports village, a consultation report suggests.

More than 8,000 responses were made in a public consultation about Wycombe Air Park at Booker.

A report to Wycombe District Council said the planned site had the "best potential" for such facilities.

A formal planning application has not yet been made, the council said.

If built, the stadium would provide a new base for Wycombe Wanderers FC and Wasps Rugby Club.

The results of the consultation are due to be discussed by the council on 17 January.

'Boost for economy'

Council leader Lesley Clarke said: "The consultation showed that the majority of people who took part thought that a new sports village and community stadium should be located at Wycombe Air Park at Booker.

"The report identifies that the project is about much more than just a new stadium for Wycombe Wanderers and Wasps.

"The project could give the local economy a significant boost, raise the profile of the district and encourage wider participation in sports."

The report points out that work remains to be done around transport and environment issues.

It also highlights that there should be more public consultation prior to any planning application.
