A custody officer at Bedford police station has appeared in court in a case relating to a man shot after he was labelled a "grass" on Facebook.

Jonpaul Pasqualone, 27, a civilian worker, was arrested after doctored images of Domenico Masciopinto's police custody record appeared on the site.

Mr Pasqualone, who is accused of misconduct in a public office, appeared at St Albans Crown Court.

Charges will be put to him in July. Three others also face charges.

Plea hearing

Mr Masciopinto, 30, was shot in Redall Close, Bedford on 16 January after the doctored images on Facebook suggested he was a police informant.

Malik Blackburn, 26, appeared in court earlier accused of attempted murder, perverting a public official and concealing proceeds of criminal activity.

His brother Aaron Romaine, 24, was also accused of attempted murder. They were remanded in custody.

Carl Martin, 30, is charged with concealing the proceeds of criminal property. He was bailed.

Their case was adjourned to 13 July for a plea hearing with a trial for 4 October.
